Tree Trimmer Sustains Traumatic Injuries after Falling 30-40 Feet

|

On October 2nd, 2013 workers for a local tree trimming company were removing trees at a Cohasset residence located at 136 Border Street when one of the tree trimmers' safety harnesses apparently failed sending him plummeting 30 to 40 feet to the ground below. Police reports indicate the 32-year-old victim sustained traumatic injuries from the fall. He was treated by emergency personnel on the scene and then transported to South Shore Hospital for further treatment. The Police Chief attempted to contact the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), as the accident was work-related, however the OSHA offices were closed due to the government shutdown.

When an individual is injured on the job, during the performance of work-related tasks or while conducting business on behalf of his or her company, he or she may be entitled to file a workers' compensation claim to recover damages. Workers' compensation is a form of insurance that employers are required to have so that injured workers can receive benefits which would help them cover the costs of medical bills, reimburse them for the time they have had to take off work and more. Should a worker sustain permanent or life-threatening injuries in a work-related accident, workers' compensation may also be able to help alleviate any financial difficulties the worker has due to being unable to continue working. This type of insurance can help compensate a worker who needs to go through additional training so as to make a vocation change as well. Family members and dependents of a worker who sustained fatal injuries in a work-related accident may be able to file a claim to receive death benefits on behalf of their loved one.
