On February 7th of this year, a young woman was in a fatal car crash on I-93 in Methuen. 23 year old Nicole Deluca was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. A 7 year old boy, also a passenger in the vehicle, was seriously injured as a result.
Off-duty firefighter Tom Defina arrived at the scene by chance and performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on the woman before the paramedics arrived. His actions won praise from Manchester Fire Chief Jim Burkush.
