On February 7 of this year, a young woman was in a fatal car crash on I-93 in Methuen. Twenty-three-year-old Nicole Deluca was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. A 7-year-old boy, also a passenger in the vehicle, was seriously injured as a result.
Off-duty firefighter Tom Defina arrived at the scene by chance and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the woman before the paramedics arrived. His actions won praise from Manchester Fire Chief Jim Burkush.
