BU Student Struck and Killed by MBTA Bus

|

In the evening of November 12, a 21 year old BU student was riding his bicycle on Brighton Avenue in Allston, MA. While at the intersection of Brighton Avenue and Harvard Avenue, considered to be one of the most dangerous intersections in Allston, the student was struck by a 57 MBTA bus and killed. Sources say the bus driver is under investigation and it is not clear whether he stopped after the accident. Witnesses say the intersection is prone to bicycle and motor vehicle accidents, in part due to the lack of a bike lane on that section of road.

Riding a bicycle in the city can be a dangerous undertaking. Drivers are not as vigilant as they should be and bikers get careless with their own safety. Accidents like these seem inevitable, but are still horrible reminders of how dangerous our roads can be.
