Convicted Sex Offender Receives Lengthy Sentence in Child Rape Case

Edward Pacheco Jr. , a previously convicted sex offender, was sentenced earlier this week to 25-35 years in prison followed by a 40-year probation. The sentence was handed down after his conviction for statutory rape and rape of a child by force. Pacheco was a friend of his victim's family. He began raping the young girl starting when she was 12 years old, and continuing over a period of many years. At the time of his conviction, he had previously been convicted of child rape in another, unrelated case.

Rape is a serious crime and not one that is taken lightly by law enforcement and prosecuting attorneys. In fact, an individual convicted of rape in Massachusetts will be looking at a minimum of 10 years behind bars. Multiple convictions will result in a prison term between 15 years and a life-sentence, depending on the circumstances surrounding the crime. Anyone accusing of raping a child can expect to receive harsh punishments, and little to no leniency on their case. Repeat offenders of child rape are required to serve at least 20 years of their sentence before they can even become eligible for probation, parole, sentence deductions, or other privileges.
